The coaching team at Townsend LTC are really looking forward to the 2013/2014 season. Working In conjunction with the Lawn Tennis Association there are plenty of new exciting initiatives.
Mini Tennis 4 – 10 years
Mini Tennis continues to build and become more popular and we are now running more Mini Red, Orange and Green groups than ever before. Starting in April we will be introducing the LTA Mini Tennis Rally Award scheme. This is a great system that enables the player to see and monitor their development in a fun way which helps both the player and the coach.
Our Mini Tennis teams will continue to play in all the local leagues and enjoy the challenge of competition. For the Mini Tennis players who want to play more we will continue to run the Tigers Tennis Academy. This has produced county and regional level players over the past seven years and we hope will continue to do so.
Junior Tennis 11 – 16 years
We are currently running coaching groups for all ages and standards at the club. Along with the coaching sessions we also run a free Club Night for junior members on a Monday evening from 6.00 – 7.30pm. This provides a great opportunity to play some fun tennis as well as catch up with friends. The social side of the junior section is something the club is very keen to develop and together the coaches and committee will be running events specifically for this 11 – 16 year old age group – check the website for details of future events as they are published.
We have junior teams entered into local events and leagues as well as our own club tournament.
Adult Coaching
Coaching is provided in both group and individual sessions for all standards. Monday evening adult classes continue to be popular and Monday morning Ladies groups are growing.
One new initiative that is ever growing in demand is Cardio Tennis. This is a fun tennis workout to fast beat music that really burns the calories. Check out the coaching programme for times and days of our Cardio sessions and ‘get in shape’!
Club Nights and Teams
Matt Foster will continue to oversee Ladies and Mens nights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, organising the play according to standard, time and court availability to make sure that everyone gets a good game. This has worked very well over the past four summer seasons and hopefully the courts will be packed this summer.
Team coaching is available on request and Captains are welcome to contact Matt to arrange any sessions they may wish to organise.
The 2013-2014 season is set to be the busiest yet with the new Euro Clay courts and lights, Cardio Tennis and Mini Tennis Rally Awards scheme to launch, so everything is in place for a great season.
