The tennis section of the club boasts eight courts, 6 astro and two all weather acrylic (the red ones) which are playable all year round. Three courts are also floodlit and are switched on from dusk until 10 p.m.
The club has 7 men's teams and 5 ladies teams who play in the Herts league, and there is also mixed team that plays in a Watford and District league. So, if you are interested in playing competitive tennis, then Townsend is an excellent place to be.
Townsend also have excellent tennis coaching facilities with an LTA affiliated coach who is based at the club, and has a coaching team to help.
We achieved the LTA's Clubmark status in December 2009, being the first private tennis club in St Albans to do so. This award reflected our commitment to our junior development and means the LTA endorses and supports the club’s tennis programme, policies and procedures, action and development planning, and club management.
The new large clubhouse provides a fully licensed and professionally staffed bar, open every evening and Sunday lunchtimes. There are changing rooms with showers, TV/games room, Kitchen and function rooms.
