At our committee meeting on Monday, we spent quite a lot of time discussing why it is that most of the members that do not renew will have been a member for between 1 and 3 years. Once somebody has been in the club for more than 3 years, they tend to stay with us for a long time.
Therefore, this indicates that some new members are not being 'engaged' in the club.
It is important that we understand why that is, so that we can take steps to improve the situation. We all know that it can be quite intimidating joining a club, especially when you don't know anybody.
We would be interested in your own experiences in your first year at the club. Did it feel cliquey? Did you find it hard to find other players at your level to mix in with? Did the winter season put an end to your playing?
Just as important though are your suggestions on how we can overcome these problems.

Re: Retaining Members
This is quite an interesting problem and my findings are as follows:
Most of the members who joined and rejoined each year were those who didn't encounter Mike Busby for about three years. Most of the members who eagerly rejoined after their first year were those who played frequently with me.
I hope this information was helpful.
Also, I now know what a gravatar is. It's like an avatar but slightly different.
Norman.
