As I sit here in front of my PC, the sun is streaming in through the window and my thoughts turn to dusting off my summer tennis outfit. Actually, my summer tennis outfit is the same as my winter outfit but without the thermals.
In these difficult economic times, it is nice to think that your local tennis club is always there for free entertainment (once you've paid your subs). No matter how many times you come down to the club, it is not going to cost you any more. Maybe this will encourage us to bring the whole family down more often for a game of tennis and a drink in the bar.
Indeed, how much cheaper is a round of drinks in the club compared to the local pub? My local charges £3 for a pint, and the club is just £2.20 for my particular tipple. And we now have real ale permanently available, thanks to the efforts of our new bar steward, Bill.
In fact, I am going down to the club this evening for a three-way indoor sports event, involving darts, table tennis, pool, cribbage and dominos. I think there is a tennis team, bowls and the local Rotary club. All of those activities will be very dehydrating. I think I had better cycle down.
So, new season, new resolution ..... "I will master the topspin backhand by the end of September".
What will your new season resolution be?
