The tennis section of Townsend boasts eight courts, playable year round and offering three different all weather surfaces – acrylic, Astroturf and our newest addition, modern clay courts which were laid in August 2012. These new courts are floodlit with state-of-the-art floodlights available from dusk until 10pm nightly.

Townsend has a wide variety of teams competing in most of the Hertfordshire competitions, including the Herts league, Watford & District, Datchworth, Hot Rackets and Herts Veterans leagues, so the club is an excellent schoice for players looking for competitive tennis.

It also offers a lively social tennis scene with regular club nights and tournaments and offers a genuine welcome to new members. There is also excellent coaching programme run by our Lawn Tennis Association (LTA)-affiliated coach, Matt Foster, and his team.

We are proud to be the first St Albans tennis club to achieve LTA Clubmark status, which reflects our commitment to junior tennis development and means the LTA endorses our tennis programme, policies and procedures, development planning and overall club management.

Our large clubhouse provides a fully licensed and professionally staffed bar, open every evening and Sunday lunchtimes. There are also changing rooms with showers, TV/games room, kitchen and function rooms.
